Doing simple things is just as important is the complex things. If we get the simple right, the more complex parts of our lives will be easier to engage with.

Exactly. A lot of times in my life I tend to tackle the complex things first because they are harder, and neglect the simple. The simple is the foundation, and core, of our faith life. It's worthy of our close attention!

I suspect everything’s always complex and simple at one and the same time, Scoot. It’s rather about resolution level. Christian prudence involves knowing when to introduce awareness of greater complexity because a matter has been oversimplified, and, equally, knowing when to come to a point of clarity and simplicity in the face of confusion and unnecessary complexity.

Well said, you can never get away from the one and focus exclusively on the other. A friend once described being Catholic as Hard, then easy, then hard, then easy as you progress through understanding.

As I said in my response to Brother Alexander, the "simple thing" represent our core, our foundation. Complex things require a strong foundation to make them easier. Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving--the watchwords of Lent--are the simple foundations of our faith life. If we do these things, then the complex things--running a parish, serving a community, evangelical outreach--become easier.
