In the Latin Mass, the Epistle this past Sunday was St. Paul’s beautiful passage on charity/love: love is patient, kind, etc. Consequently, charity has been a prevalent theme in the homilies on Sunday and at Mass yesterday. Thanks for inviting me to the podcast, I had a good time chatting about the faith.

"A priest once told me we should keep our fasts forever"

This is fascinating—it has often ended up happening that, after 40 days, I no longer “crave” the thing I gave up, and my relationship with it has substantially changed, but my (overly-legalistic?) mind has always wanted to claim that the t r u l y p e n i t e n t i a l option would be to give up something that pointedly isn’t a bad habit/vice to crush forever, so there’s more potential for detachment to a true good… this perspective is freeing, ngl.

Sad that it took me more than two weeks to realize I'd missed the latest PTD. But this was a great read and insightful take on Lent. I was more than a week into Lent and felt lousy about not knowing what in the world to give up. Nothing felt "right." Instead, I decided to wake up earlier and add a daily Rosary and I've been doing that now for a little more than a week. Better late than never, right? The peace this has brought to my day is nothing short of amazing.
