I was watching the Lion King with my kids and I can’t help myself:
When Nala searches for help what does she hope to find? Who’s to say that any usurper fresh off the Savannah would be any better for their pride? And doesn’t Scar have a rightful claim to the throne in his nephews absence?
It is only because of Simba’s true claim to the throne and acknowledgement of the obligation inherent in that claim that he returns to take his rightful place. And the crown lies heavy because it means something to him.
If you acquire authority by birth (chance) - that ought to engender humility. But for Scar, or any subsequent usurper without a claim, it’s their might that makes right, and they’re far more concerned with how they and their supporters can profit off their ascendance.
